As you all are aware, Fr. Mark began a medical leave of absence on December 1, 2018.  The medical leave of absence was to conclude March 1, 2019.  After consultation with doctors, the personnel director for the Archdiocese, and the Cardinal, the decision was made to extend Fr. Mark’s medical leave of absence.  Due to this extension, it was further decided that Fr. Mark’s assignment here at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish would come to an end.  This would allow Fr. Mark to attend to the serious medical issues that have plagued him for many years.   Fr. Mark has humbly asked that Saturday, March 2nd be his last day at St. Mary’s.  After prayerful consideration, I respect his decision and accept his desire to step down, realizing that this does not give the parish as a whole the opportunity to say goodbye.  For the past five years, Fr. Mark has served our parish family, at times to the detriment of his own health.  I, for one, am grateful for the many sacrifices he has made, and encourage each of you to pray for him during this medical leave of absence.  It was his desire to simply celebrate Mass on Saturday and have a small reception for those in attendance.  On behalf of the staff and parishioners, I would like to thank Fr. Mark for his years of ministry and dedication to our parish family.
