When I think of today’s Gospel, in which the poor widow made such a significant sacrifice, I am reminded of the selfless sacrifices that our Veterans have made. Men and women from all walks of life answered the call to serve our Nation. Some went abroad and others stayed within our borders, however, they all had the same mission to protect and to serve. Countless that answered the call never returned to their families. This Veterans’ Day weekend, I ask each of you to honor their service by your prayers. If you see somebody that you know to be a Veteran, then thank them for their service. We are blessed in our Nation because, like the widow of today’s Gospel, we have so many who give their all and make many sacrifices. Together we must learn from their examples; we are all called to be selfless and compassionate.
