In the Gospel today, Jesus tells us: “Hear me, all of you, and understand. Nothing that enters one from outside can defile that person; but the things that come out from within are what defile.” This is cause for us to examine our minds and hearts. Jesus reminds all that it is the words we use that show what truly is in our hearts. What is in your heart today? Examine your words over the past few days. What are the things you have been saying? If our hearts are filled with love, then the words we use will be steeped in forgiveness, compassion, and kindness. If our hearts are filled with anger, then the words will take on a distinctive characteristic that is in contrast to forgiveness, compassion, and kindness. I know that we all have a bad day here and there. But overall, what is in your heart?
