The people who walked into the synagogue on the Sabbath must have been floored.  This man, Jesus of Nazareth, who they hadn’t seen since He was a child, was sitting in the Chair of Moses and then steps up to the podium and begins to teach.  Well you heard in the Gospel passage what their reactions were.  I often wonder, what our reactions would be if we were to enter St. Mary’s and see Jesus present.  But wait . . . He is present in the Sacred Eucharist.  When you see Him lifted high above the altar, what is your reaction?  Do you dismiss Him as they did over 2,000 years ago?  Or do you simply recognize Him and adore Him with the words of St. Thomas: “My Lord and my God!”  The truth is that Jesus is present to us, as the Second Vatican Council reminds us, in the Word proclaimed, in the Eucharist, in the person of the priest, and in the community at prayer.  Do you see Him?
