This weekend, we celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist. John became the voice that made Christ known. He, however, knew that he was not the Word. Yes, John is the voice but Jesus is the Word. In St. John’s own mind he never confused that reality. In other words, he didn’t make himself out to be Christ. He pointed others to Christ. He never got in the way of the message, but simply proclaimed Christ present in the midst of the people. He believed and his actions proved that Christ must increase and he must decrease. Let us all today follow in the venerable footsteps of St. John the Baptist. Let us lead others to Christ while not allowing ourselves to get in the way. Point Christ out to others and simply allow Him to increase in your life.
