This gospel has always been one of my favorites. Jesus seems to be a bit intense and even “over the top” in His reaction to those “entrepreneurs” in the Temple. However, His reaction is completely justified. They were in the Temple doing everything expect what they were supposed to be doing. They were not praying ~ they were paying. They were not offering ~ they were taking. They were not meditating ~ they were manipulating. Their intentions in the Temple were self-serving. Jesus reminds us today, in this sacred space, that our intentions must be correct. We must have the proper disposition while we are here. Like Jesus, zeal for God’s house must consume us! So . . . what are your intentions?
