After calming the fears and anxieties of so many people that we have heard about in the Gospels these past few weeks, Jesus returns home and enters the synagogue on the Sabbath and begins to teach. We hear many comments from some who were present and took offense at Him. We hear further that Jesus was amazed at their lack of faith.
We have also recently seen this before, no? In the boat a couple of weeks ago, Jesus says: “Do you still not yet have faith?” Last weekend, there were those who did not believe Him when He said that the girl was not dead, so He put them out of the house. And now, the people take offense at Him ~ what was so offensive? They are not questioning what He is saying, for they acknowledge He is wise. They are, however, questioning His identity. Obviously, He is speaking the truth. They just want to know where He got such wisdom and power. It seems that once again, the people are missing the opportunity to have an encounter with Christ. Today, let us listen to His wisdom and be grateful for the encounter.
Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Fr. Wayne
