On Wednesday ~ Ash Wednesday, we began another Lenten journey.  Just as Jesus spent 40 days in the desert and was tempted by the devil, and as Noah spent 40 days on the Ark during the flood, we are given these 40 days to contemplate God’s promise and presence in our lives.  How are you going to spend these next 40 days?  In the desert Jesus prayed, fasted, and gave Himself to God.  We are called to prayer, fasting, and giving (almsgiving) ourselves in this season.  How are you going to achieve those Lenten practices?

In the area of prayer, might you consider taking up Deacon Kelley’s challenge to spend one hour a week in the Perpetual Adoration Chapel? In the area of fasting, might you consider “giving up” a particular thing for the intention of somebody in your life who needs help?  In the area of almsgiving, might you consider making an effort to be more generous to family, friends, and/or the parish (I don’t mean in the way of money but perhaps your time/attention)?  These 40 days are yours to make a difference in your life and in the lives of those around you.  Live these 40 days worthily and well.  How will you spend your 40 days of Lent?  It’s worth taking this question to prayer today.

Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Fr. Wayne
