As we continue into the next series of “Kingdom Parables,” we read about the hidden treasure, the pearl, and the net.  In the first two parables (the hidden treasure and the pearl), Jesus tells us of the supreme value of the Kingdom and the attitude we need to have in order to attain It.  While both parables speak of the immense value of the Kingdom, the treasure reminds us of the abundance of the Kingdom; whereas, the pearl speaks to Its beauty.  Whether the treasure was stumbled upon or sought out diligently, we see the great joy It brings to those who find it.  In the third parable regarding the net, we understand the net to be the Church and the sea to be the world.  As the fishermen drew near to shore, they divided the good fish from the bad.  This is to serve as a reminder that in the end there will be the Judgement.  Let us reflect on these parables this week; that is, the abundance and beauty of the Kingdom and the moment of Judgement.  Pope St. Gregory the Great stated: “All these things are said to make sure that no one can make the excuse that he does not know about them; this excuse would be valid only if eternal punishment were spoken about in ambiguous terms.”  In other words, don’t say you haven’t been warned.
