This weekend, we continue with the “Parables of the Kingdom.”  In this Parable of the Weeds, we learn that the soil was receptive and the seed was good.  We know that is was scattered with care and precision.  Yet, those working in the field noticed that weeds were starting to grow among the wheat.  How did this happen?  How did the weeds grow among the wheat?  The simple response is given by the Master: “an enemy has done this.” True!  But how did the enemy do so?  He waited for all to be asleep and then wreaked havoc in the field.  The weeds of sin will grow in our lives when we do likewise.  Through our luke- warmness, we grow sluggish of heart and allow the enemy to wreak havoc in our lives.  That is, when we fail to respond to God’s call to holiness ~ we fall asleep and allow the enemy to approach.  We must stay ever alert ~ ever vigilant so as not to allow the weeds of temptation and sin to contaminate our lives.   In the event that the weeds are noticed, our remedy is the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  As we continue to be receptive to God’s words on the Kingdom, stay focused, alert, and ever vigilant.

Faithfully Yours in Christ,
Fr. Wayne
