Last week in the Gospel, Jesus instructed us that our righteousness must surpass that of the scribes and Pharisees, that is, of others. This week He is calling us to go even further. He now urges us to be perfect just as God the Father is perfect. This seems to be an impossible and daunting task. Nonetheless, we are called to rise to the occasion. This week and for forty days after, we will be given many opportunities to grow in holiness. Please take advantage of the many Masses, hours of Confession, Book Clubs, Bible Studies, Adoration times, and the many other spiritual programs offered this Lenten Season. We are called to holiness; we are called to inspire others in the faith; we are called to be saints; and we are called to be perfect just as our Heavenly Father is perfect. The bottom line is ~ the opportunities will be there ~ can you rise to the challenge?
