Today’s gospel reveals two people in prayer ~ one is pompous, and the other is penitent.  One offers a prayer steeped in pride and arrogance, and the other offers a perfect prayer of humility and need.   We are told that the latter, who prayed for forgiveness, was heard that day.  The other man, filled with pride, only rattled off a list of his own accomplishments without ever considering that they were blessings from God.  He saw himself as the one who accomplished great things and failed to give credit where credit was due.  The humble man simply asked for forgiveness for the wrongs he committed.  He recognized that all blessings are from God and recognized his own need for mercy.  Let’s pray we can do likewise.

Faithfully Yours in Christ,
