The summoning of the Twelve in the Gospel this weekend allows us to see that Jesus permitted the Twelve to share in an intimate way in His ministry. He gave them authority to do great things. He instructed them on how they were to go and what they were called to do. They went forward in the same manner in which they received their initial calling. That is, they went immediately and did what He asked of them. There was no hesitation on their part; there were no litanies of questions; there were no expressions of fear and/or anxiety. They received His word and acted on it. This is a good reminder to us. Once we hear the Word of God, we need to respond to it with immediacy. The Twelve realized that if He was sending them out, then He would make the necessary provisions for them. There is much to learn from that! The bottom line of the Gospel is trust God. They took nothing with them except that reliance on and trust in God. Can we do likewise?
Yours in Christ,
