This weekend, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Lord’s Baptism by John in the Jordan River. As Jesus emerges from the water, a voice is heard. That voice is that of God, the Father. He proclaims: This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” And then it begins . . . The public ministry of Jesus explodes on the scene. Next weekend, John will proclaim Him to be the Lamb of God. His proof to make such a claim, was the voice he heard at the moment of the baptism: “I saw the Spirit come down like a dove from heaven and remain upon Him. . . the One who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘On whomever you see the Spirit come down and remain, He is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ Now I have seen and testified that He is the Son of God.” That testimony will carry through in the following week, when Jesus calls Peter, Andrew, James, and John. Immediately they leave everything and follow Him. Why? They had seen and they heard who this Man is. We have just completed the Christmas season, you have seen and heard. The question remains, are you willing to follow where He leads?
