The Gospel this weekend, coupled with the Gospel of last Sunday, provides us with two great components needed for every prayer. Last weekend, you will recall that the brothers, James and John, were bold in their question to Christ. They wanted to sit at His right and left. After Jesus asked them if they were willing to undergo suffering and sacrifice, they responded ~ yes! They provide us with the example that our prayer needs to be bold and daring.
Bartimaeus, knowing that Christ was passing by, seized the moment and cried out to Him for healing/help. He was not going to miss the opportunity to reach out to the One who alone could restore him. Even when he was told to be silent, Bartimaeus cried out all the louder. He demonstrates for us the next necessary aspect of prayer, it needs to be confident and trusting.
So today, in your prayer be bold, daring, confident and trusting. Remember the words of St. Josemaria: “Dream and your dreams will fall short.”
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Wayne
