In the Gospel today, we encounter Christ and the multiplication of the loaves and fish. Some modern day theorists attempt to explain how Jesus fed the five thousand with such meager provisions. They claim that the people present started to share their food with others; and, for those theorists the true miracle was Jesus was able to get the people to share their resources. This often thought of theory undermines the exact nature and true importance of the miracle that was performed by Christ. Jesus performed the miracle. He took the loaves and fish and by God’s grace was able to multiply them in order to feed so many. God will never be outdone in mercy, love, and generosity. Jesus performed the miracle because He was moved with compassion. He desired to satisfy both the physical and spiritual needs of the crowd. If Jesus could take five loaves and two fish and perform such an extraordinary miracle then imagine what He can do with your life. Trust Him! Give to Him your “loaves and fish” and let the feast begin!
