In the Gospel today, we are admonished to store up our treasures in heaven. We do so for one simple reason; namely, Jesus said elsewhere in the Gospels (Matthew 6:21), “For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.” St. Augustine reminds us that our hearts are restless until they rest in God. There is a simple linear connection to be made here. Our hearts rest in God, who happens to be in heaven, where we will find our treasure ~ eternal salvation. How do we store up this treasure? We are able to do so by the manner in which we live our lives. The treasure is the grace that is afforded us through the sacraments, adoration, prayer, and yes ~ good deeds. Do not be like the foolish man of today’s Gospel or like Martha of the Gospel several weeks back. Stay focused on Christ, work on your relationship with Him, and don’t be distracted by worries. Remember, store up your treasure in heaven, you will not regret it!
