This Gospel of the Return of the Prodigal Son gives us a glimpse into the heart of God the Father. The father in the Gospel responds lovingly and mercifully to both his sons. One took off and lived a less than desirable existence; the other remained at home and did all that was asked. When the younger son returns, the father warmly embraces him and celebrates the fact that he has come home. When the older son realizes what has happened, he is indignant. The father takes the time necessary to speak with him and help him to realize the value of the brother’s return.
