The Divine House Guest of Souls
This new devotion, the fruit of prayer in our Adoration Chapel, has been approved by the Archdiocese of Boston and has received the nihil obstat and imprimatur.
The devotion begins prior to Holy Mass as one prays the Act of Contrition, asking forgiveness and cleansing the room of the heart. “O my God, I am heartily sorry for ever having offended thee, and I detest all of my sins, because I dread the loss of Heaven and the pains of hell. But most of all, because I have offended Thee, O my God, who art all good and worthy of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy Grace, to confess my sins, to do penance and to amend my life. Amen.” (It is necessary to go to confession every two weeks or before if there is mortal sin.) As you enter the Church, bless yourself with Holy Water, and enter your pew with a profound genuflection.
Before receiving the Eucharistic: “O, Divine House Guest of my soul, come, come in quickly! May Your feet be bathed; Your meal be prepared with great care. May You find rest and comfort, silence and rest in this house. O Divine House Guest of my soul, how is it that You come to me, making Your dwelling for the night and another day, within this unworthy post? See, it is a grand celebration of Your love! I have brought the choicest steer; we have made the cakes of gratitude, and Your room is prepared for You to find rest. O Divine House Guest, I know that you are tired by sin, wearied by travelling, searching for souls, doing the work of salvation and sanctification. Come and rest awhile here. You will find attentive hosts. O Divine House Guest, I pray that I may be another worthy Abraham, another good listening Sarah for your visit. O my Divine House Guest, one can never say Thank You enough for these Your Eucharistic visits.”
After receiving the Lord, spend some time with Him in prayer. Then begins the Chaplet of the Divine House Guest.
