The Resurrection of Christ has taken place; He has appeared to the disciples at least twice; they have heard from others the news of the empty tomb; and their immediate reaction is to go on a fishing expedition. Something seems off. Before, however, we criticize their actions let us look at our own actions. One would think that any encounter with the Risen Lord would be transformative in one’s life. How then could the Apostles return to what they used to do before they had seen Jesus? Well, we have the opportunity to encounter Christ, in the Eucharist, and yet we, too, return to our old way of doing things. The power of the Eucharist should transform our lives. We, however, like the Apostles, return more often than not to the way we have acted; we use the same words we have uttered, and we think the same thoughts in our minds. Should not our encounter with Christ, in the Eucharist, be transformative?
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Wayne
