The Gospel this weekend is a continuation from what we heard last Sunday regarding riches, our attachment to material things, and our desire to accumulate these goods.  Last weekend Jesus reminded us to focus on what matters to God and ourselves.  That is, focus on those spiritual goods that are necessary to help us answer the call to holiness.  Now I am not saying to divest yourselves completely from all material goods, for to a certain degree we need them to survive.  What I am saying is not to allow those things to control your lives, which in the spiritual life is known as detachment.  Think back to Martha and Mary.  Martha was so consumed with taking care of the material things that she neglected to spend time with Christ.  Whereas Mary chose the spiritual path and spent time with Christ.  She represents those who recognize the need to stop and spend time with Christ ~ for this truly matters.  He is the One who gives us the spiritual fruits necessary for holiness.  So today, encounter Christ through the Holy Mass, Adoration, and prayer.  This is always time well spent and it really does matter!

Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Fr. Wayne
