This week’s Gospel account of Jesus’ visit with Martha and Mary always captures my attention. Just imagine for a moment sitting at the feet of Jesus, looking into His eyes, and hearing His voice as He speaks. Then think about completely abandoning yourself as you adore Him. Martha and Mary both had unique opportunities to tend to and listen to Jesus. We know that Martha got consumed by household details and was weighed down with one task after another. Our Lord calls her to stop for a moment and focus on what is truly important. What Martha was doing was not bad, but it was just taking her away from Christ. We are blessed here at St. Mary’s to have many excellent opportunities to stop and focus on what is truly important ~ our Lord. You can be in His presence, listen to His voice, adore Him, and tend to Him. This encounter with the Lord begins with Holy Mass and continues beyond the Mass in the Perpetual Adoration Chapel. I encourage each of you to take advantage of the Masses celebrated here daily and on the weekend. We have Holy Mass offered 18 times each week. We have Eucharistic Adoration available 168 hours each week. You have ample opportunities to spend time with the Lord. So, I encourage you to be like both Martha and Mary, that is, sit at His feet, look into His eyes, listen to His voice, abandon yourself and adore Him, and tend to His wants; this is what will bring about our holiness.
Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Fr. Wayne
