In the Psalm today, we that the Lord is my Shepherd, there is nothing I shall want.” We pray and even sing these words so often that I fear they may at times lose some of there significance. Do we honestly believe that there is nothing we shall need or want? A dear priest recently gave me this Lenten prayer of Penance:
“There are times when the one thing you want is the one thing you never get . . . You pray and wait. No answer. You pray and wait. May I ask a very important question? What if God says no? What if the request is delayed or even denied? When God says no to you, how will you respond? If God says, ‘I’ve given you My grace, and that is enough,’ will you be content? Content. That is a word. A state of heart in which you would be at peace if God gave you nothing more than He already has.”
The truth of the matter is that God had given us all that we need or should desire. He gave us His Son, His love, His mercy, the Sacraments ~ is that enough for you?
Faithfully Yours in Christ,
