Over the past few Sundays, Jesus has been giving us a glimpse on what discipleship entails. Two weeks ago, we learned that the point of departure for discipleship was to acknowledge Christ before others. Last week, Jesus took that a step further when He admonished us to receive Him. This week, we are now called to acknowledge and receive Him with humility. In the opening prayer at Mass today, we prayed: “O God who in the abasement of Your Son, You have raised up a fallen world . . .” In this instance, that abasement, which is likened to humbleness or humility, paves the road for the salvation of the world. Christ humbled Himself and took on human flesh. This was done for the singular purpose as defined in the Second Vatican Council Decree Dei Verbum: “so that we could have access to the Father through the Son in the Holy Spirit.” Today, humble yourself before God and walk along that road that will lead to salvation.
Faithfully Yours in Christ,
Fr. Wayne
