The Gospel this weekend speaks to us about the proper disposition of prayer. In other words, how do we present ourselves to God in moments of prayer? Do we do so like the Pharisee and give God an accounting of our accomplishments? Or, perhaps like the tax collector, we acknowledge our sins along with our need for God’s mercy? What does your prayer resemble? St. Teresa of Avila stated: “prayer is nothing else but an intimate sharing between friends; it means taking time frequently to be alone with Him who we know loves us.” Does your prayer take on that spirit? Last weekend, Jesus admonished us to pray without growing weary. That is, never grow tired with the conversation you are having with God, your friend. Prayer is that simple conversation we have with God. It is essential that we take time each and every day to check in with God and let Him know what is happening in our lives. It is always good to spend those moments in an intimate conversation with the One who loves us so profoundly. This week examine your prayer; examine your disposition and attitude; take time for the conversation. It will be time well spent.
