In the Gospel today, Jesus makes mention of the Old Testament time in which the people grumbled against God and rejected Him. God then sent serpents who bit the people and poisoned them. After the people pleaded with Moses, God allowed him to cast a bronze serpent and mount it on a pole. Those afflicted with the poison could look upon the bronze serpent and be healed. This Jesus connects to His being on the Cross and how that would lead to the healing of souls wounded by sin and death. We must make every effort to constantly keep our gaze on Christ crucified. As we look upon Him, we experience the healing our souls and bodies desire. I encourage each of you to spend time in the Perpetual Adoration Chapel (St. Joseph’s Chapel), it is there that you can look upon Christ, the Crucified One. Pope Benedict XVI had commented:
“Let us fix our gaze on the Crucified One, let us pause more often in adoration before the Eucharist to let our life enter the love of God who humbly lowered Himself in order to lift us up to Him.”
In these closing days of Lent, make your way to the Chapel and see God’s love before your very eyes.
Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Fr. Wayne
