As we enter this third Sunday of Lent, we are presented in the Gospel with the familiar scene of Jesus chasing out of the temple precincts those who have turned that area of prayer into an area of commerce. We find that Jesus is consumed, as we hear in the Gospel, with zeal for God‘s house. This certainly is not the first time He was consumed with zeal for God‘s house. Recall when Mary and Joseph were in the caravan and they could not find their Son. When they finally locate Him in the temple it is Jesus who says to Mary: “why were You looking for Me? Did You not know I had to be in my Father’s house?”
From the very beginning it was zeal that consumed the heart of Jesus. Does that zeal consume our hearts? Are we spending time in God‘s house, fruitful time? As we spend time in Adoration, is our heart consumed with zeal for prayer? As we sit in anticipation for the beginning of Mass, is our heart consumed with zeal? After we receive our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, is our heart consumed with zeal? We are in week three of our Lenten journey; examine your heart today. Last Sunday the disciples said to Jesus it is good that we are here. This week can we say the same?
Sincerely Yours in Christ,
