This week we enter into the new Church Liturgical Year starting with the season of Advent.  We are now undertaking four weeks of preparation for the birth of Christ.  I find that the words from the Psalm today, in particular, “To You O’Lord I lift my soul,” could provide us with a manner in which we can prepare.  Over these next four weeks, I ask each of you to do as the psalmist instructs, namely, lift up your souls to God.  What does this mean?  Simply, spend time over this Advent Season praying and lifting your heart, mind, and soul to God.  This can be done as I said through prayer, but that prayer can be enhanced by reading the Bible, walking the Advent Stations of the Cross, offering a daily Rosary, reflecting on God’s mercy and love in quiet at home or in the Church/Chapel, reading some spiritual work of a saint, and/or availing yourself to the Sacraments.  In the bulletin, we have an Advent Section that offers other spiritual opportunities for you to lift up your soul to God.  Do not waste this season by simply shopping ~ spend it in moments of prayer throughout the day.
