As we continue to reflect on how we can “increase our faith,”  by participating in the spiritual programs here at St. Mary’s, let us explore the Devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows, which is prayed together every Tuesday after the 12:10 pm daily Mass in the Church.

Devotions to Our Lady of Sorrows is rooted in ancient Church tradition, yet, it took on prominence in the 13th century.  The Feast Day of Our Lady of Sorrows is September 15th, the day following the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross.  Our Blessed Mother experienced seven sorrows, which is depicted in a statue, with seven swords piercing her heart.  The seven sorrows worthy of reflection are:

The Prophecy of Simeon (Luke 2:34-35) The Flight into Egypt
The Loss of the Child Jesus in the Temple
The Meeting of Jesus and Mary on the Via Dolorosa
The Crucifixion and Death of Jesus
Jesus is taken down from the Cross
The Burial of Jesus.

Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Fr. Wayne
