This weekend the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, the Most Sacred Body and Blood of Christ. As Catholics, we believe in the Real Presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist. This is the most basic and fundamental belief of all Catholics. Christ is truly present in the Sacred Host and Precious Chalice. This weekend, let us renew our commitment in showing reverence for Christ’s presence among us. There are a few things we can do to show this reverence, namely:
- As you enter the pew facing the Tabernacle and Altar, make a reverent and profound genuflection. In doing so, use your right knee and make the Sign of the Cross.
- As you come forward to receive Jesus in Holy Communion, make a profound bow or kneel at the kneelers in front of the priests for the reception of Holy Communion.
- Many have taken to receiving Holy Communion on the tongue – might this be a consideration.
- When you return to your pew after the reception of Holy Communion, kneel in silence and recognize Who you have just received.
- After the Holy Mass, take a few moments to offer thanksgiving to God for this Sacrament of your Salvation. Perhaps you may want to pray the Devotion to the Divine Host Guest found here.
- Take time this week to spend some moments in prayer in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel before the Lord in the Monstrance.
Each of these practices can be a way in which we show just a little more love for our Lord in the Holy Eucharist.
Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Fr. Wayne
