Regarding the Plan of Life, let us see how our day is looking. We begin with the Morning Offering with the Heroic Minute, continue with a reading from the New Testament in which we draw out an aspiration to be used during the day, Spiritual Reading compliments our Scripture reading, and we round off with the Angelus and Examination of Conscience. Recognizing that each of these spiritual practices take only a few moments each day, let us look at how we can conclude the day. In the morning, we turned our first thought over to God in the Morning Offering; we must end the day in a similar manner. That is, we must turn our last thought over to God at night. Before going to bed kneel or sit at the edge of the bed and offer three Hail Marys and thank God for the blessings received throughout the day. Now, we have begun and ended each day in prayer by giving to God our first and last thought of that day.
According to St. Gertrude (1256–1301), the Blessed Virgin Mary promised the following:
“To any soul who faithfully prays the Three Hail Marys, I will appear at the hour of death in a splendor of beauty so extraordinary that it will fill the soul with heavenly consolation.”
