The Beatitudes we hear in the Gospel today provides us with a blueprint for the Catholic life as well as supplying us with a moral code by which to live. Each of these Beatitudes speak to our hearts for the simple fact that we can see ourselves at one moment or another in them. As we live out these Beatitudes, there is an assurance for each of us; namely, “Rejoice and be glad for your reward will be great in heaven.” So this day let us strive to be poor in spirit, meek and humble, hungering and thirsting for holiness, merciful and pure, peaceful and strong in the face of persecution. As we live these Beatitudes and face certain hardships in our lives – there is a hope that will accompany it. In other words, in the midst of our striving for holiness and enduring challenges, Jesus promises to see us through. We are never alone! We have hope; a hope that St. Paul reminds us: “will never leave us disappointed!” So remember, “Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.”
