These past weeks we have witnessed first hand the depths of God’s compassion for us. In the Parable of the Barren Fig Tree, we come to know that, like the gardener, God will not give up on us. He continues to give us opportunities to begin again and again. Last week, in the Parable of the Prodigal Son, we recognize that God, like the father of the two sons, waits for our return. When we come to our senses and return through the Sacrament of Confession, the Father embraces us with His love and fits us with the finest robe of forgiveness and the ring of mercy. This weekend, we encounter Jesus extending to the woman caught in adultery a hand of mercy and love. His compassion to her is extended to us once again in the Sacrament of Confession. These past three gospel passages have been paving a road for us. That road leads to no other place than the Church Confessional. So, like the fig tree ~ it’s time to bear fruit; like the two sons ~ it’s time to feel God’s loving embrace; and like the adulterous woman ~ it’s time to hear God’s words of absolution.
Yours in Christ,
