Last weekend, Jesus commended Peter for his faith. He even handed over to Peter the Keys to the Kingdom. This weekend, Jesus sharply rebukes Peter, and tells him to stand back. Why such a contrast? Actually, the Gospel this weekend is a reminder to us all that we cannot get in the way of the mission that Jesus has come to fulfill. In other words, if we are not going to follow Christ completely {take up your cross and follow Me}, then get out of the way! He wants disciples who are committed to the mission. He wants those who choose to follow Him to do so with every fiber of their being. Are you that person? Can you follow Him on the road, even if it demands certain sacrifices?
