“I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
In a little while the world will no longer see me,
but you will see me, because I live and you will live.”

Jesus offers us these words today, which are a fulfillment of the promise that was made at the moment of His conception in the womb of our Blessed Mother.  The angel Gabriel told Mary that the Child will be called Emmanuel, which means God-with-us.  Jesus tells us plainly today that He will not leave us orphans; in other words, He will not go back on the promise made at His birth.  He is now preparing us for His Ascension and the ultimate sending of the Holy Spirit into our lives.  The fullness of the Holy Spirit is the fullness of the promise that we will never be abandoned by God.  The Holy Spirit is God’s presence among us.  The Holy Spirit is sent by the Father and the Son into the world .  Prepare your hearts for the expression of God’s love.  Make ready your lives for the promptings of the Holy Spirit.

Come Holy Spirit and fill the minds and the hearts of the faithful with the fullness of Your love.

Happy Mother’s Day!

This weekend, we celebrate Mother’s Day.  It is a wonderful opportunity for us to pause and thank our moms, both living and deceased, for the many sacrifices that they have and continue to make for our families.  This weekend, offer a special prayer for your mother.  Also, be mindful of those women who have played a motherly role in your life.  Thank them for their example, care, and love.

May Mary, Mother of the Church and Mother of us all watch over and protect Her children.

“I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly,” are the final words of today’s Gospel  and the same words that inspired a St. Mary’s Parish based ministry.  This past week, our parish celebrated the seventh anniversary of the John 10:10 Ministry.  This ministry founded by parishioners prays for families, the sanctity of all life, and for vocations to marriage, the priesthood and consecrated life, all of which are born and nurtured in families. This unique prayer ministry accepts prayer requests from people like you and me and has a team of prayer partners who pray for those specific needs.  If you want to make a prayer request or would like to join this beautiful prayer ministry, then please take a moment and send an email to: john1010abundantlife@gmail.com.

Were not our hearts burning within us . . . This is what the disciple said after they realized that Jesus had walked and spoke with them on the road to Emmaus.  They were in a deep conversation with Jesus, however, they did not know it was Him.  Only after He revealed Himself to them did they recall that strong burning sensation within their hearts.  Our prayer is called to be the same.  As a matter of fact, any encounter we have with Jesus should stir up in our hearts a burning desire to want to remain in conversation with Him.  In these days of Easter, I encourage each of you to spend some quality time in conversation with Jesus.  Don’t fail to recognize His presence in your life as the two along the road did.  Christ is in our midst, let us recognize Him and let us invite Him to stay with us.

I want to take an opportunity to thank all those responsible for making our Holy Week celebrations so prayerful, beautiful, and festive.  I would not even attempt to name people for fear of forgetting somebody.  To all who worked so hard this past week, I simply offer a profound word of gratitude.  Many commented on how wonderful the week was and I agree with each of those comments.  Words are not enough to say thank you; however, be assured of my heartfelt thanks and prayerful best wishes.  May the risen Christ strengthen the bonds of love and family shared by each and every one of us.

Happy Easter!    Buona Pasqua!

On behalf of the entire Parish Staff at St. Mary’s, I would like to wish each and every one of you a happy and blessed Easter.  This past week was truly extraordinary.  Each of the Masses and Services were celebrated with love, devotion, and care.  From Palm Sunday throughout Holy Week, I was left in awe at the beauty of the celebrations.  I want to thank Kyle and the choir for all their efforts in enhancing our liturgies with the gift of music.  I want to express my gratitude to Brandon and the Life Teen band for helping us enter into these past days with joy and love.  In particular, I want to thank the members of Life Teen for their dramatic presentation of the Passion of Christ.  I have never witnessed anything so moving in my entire life.  My prayer this week has centered on their Passion Play.  Also, thank you to all the servers, lectors, extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist, and coordinators for going over and beyond what has been expected.   We are truly blessed here at St. Mary’s Church and I hope that this past week has been one in which you experienced the profound love that God has for each of us.  May God bless you and our parish family in this Easter Season.

Happy Easter!  Buona Pasqua!

We are now entering into a week which is holy!  I ask and urge each of you to participate in the Masses and Services during this week.  I guarantee you that each of you will experience in a profound way the mercy and love of God.  When we look at Christ on the Cross on Good Friday, we must realize that it was love not nails that held Jesus on the Cross.  Come to Him and adore the Cross that won your salvation.  Holy Week is truly an extraordinary week in which we can see and experience all that Christ did for us.  Do not miss an opportunity to come closer to the One whose death brought you and me to eternal salvation.

We adore You O’Christ and we praise you because by Your holy Cross,  You have redeemed the world.

Next weekend, we will together enter into a week which we call holy.  The events that will unfold beginning with the entrance of Christ into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.  Like the crowds of old, we will cry out Hosanna!  Then we will be led to the Upper Room on Holy Thursday where we will witness Jesus humble washing the feet of His disciples and instituting the Eucharist.  From there, we will walk the way of the Cross with Jesus on Good Friday.  There we will stand with Mary and the Beloved Disciple at the foot of His Cross and witness the depths of His love for us.  Then, we shall enter into the silence of Holy Saturday as Christ will be placed in the tomb.  That silence, however, will be shattered on Easter Sunday, when we cry out Alleluia, He has Risen! This week is indeed holy because of the events that Christ will undergo for love of us and for our salvation.  Enter it with a sense of gratitude.

This weekend, we welcome Bishop Robert Reed to St. Mary’s for the Confirmation Mass for the young men and women from our parish.  This Sunday at the 5:00 p.m. Mass some 60 candidates will receive the outpouring of God’s Holy Spirit during the Confirmation Ceremony.  I ask you to pray for these candidates who over the past two years have been studying and preparing for the gifts of the Holy Spirit.  Also, pray for Bishop Reed as he celebrates this important sacrament in the lives of these young men and women and in the life of our parish family.  To the candidates, I pray that you all receive the grace this sacrament offers and the seven-fold gifts of the Holy Spirit: Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel (right judgment), Fortitude (courage), Knowledge, Piety (reverence) and Fear of the Lord (wonder & awe).  To Bishop Reed, I offer you the prayerful support of our parish family.

Welcome and Congratulations!

Welcome Fr. Gabriel Troy!
